Tool was made to calculate your sailors needed to fire your cannons at their maximum damage.

Depending on how many cannons you have on your ship, there is requirements to fire them at their max damage.

According to this calculator, all ships that are not galleys do not carry enough maximum crew to fire their cannon at full damage. In most cases, they do not even have enough crew to fire 4 less than their maximum number of cannon.

Which ship are you talking about? Because it seems like you are entering wrong information.

Its minimum required sailors that you have to input. Not the sailor you want to have.

If you mod the ship as shipbuilder you can extend your cannon chambers but that doesn't mean it is going to be efficient. Please keep in mind that Bow and Sterns are not in the equation. So just put in your side cannons for the cannon number box.

These are base ships fed into the cannon calc:

Light Carrack: min crew:20, max crew:30, cannon:20, crew required to fire all cannon: 39

Battle Carrack: min crew:30, max crew:55, cannon:42, crew required to fire all cannon: 68

Armored Vaisseau: min crew:56, max crew:112, cannon:92, crew required to fire all cannon:138

Galleys by comparison...

Light Galley: min crew:25, max crew:40, cannon:10, crew required to fire all cannon:35

Barbarian Galley: min crew:45, max crew:75, cannon:20, crew required to fire all cannon:64

La Royale: min crew:90, max crew:156, cannon:75, crew required to fire all cannon:157

All of the above are 'battle' ships, which should certainly have the capacity for enough crew to fire all of their cannon in a broadside. So either the game mechanics are flawed or the cannon calc is.

I understand that but that is why you can customize your ship to optimize that.

If you just go off base stat, you can not expect good result can you?

Also again dont forget ships with Stern and Bow since those are not part of calc.

Meaning if a Bow Cannon takes up 6 cannon chambers then that is not part of your total cannon quantity. It would you your broadside cannon - (Bow + Stern).

And this was tested over 5 years on other servers.

You should try yourself.

I'm not meaning to be difficult, but if the problem isn't with the cannon calculator, then it is with the game.

Here's a 'battle' ship with no bow or stern cannon to confuse the issue...

Light Galleon:
Minimum Crew: 22
Maximum Crew: 30
# Cannon: 24 (3 slots) (no bow, no stern)
Crew Needed For Full Damage: 44

To my mind, base ships should only have as many cannon ports as there would be crew available to man the cannons sticking out of them. Do you see my point?

Just that its setup that way since test results return that way.

Anyone can say how the penalty looks like if you don't have enough sailors? Is the damage reduced based on a linear formula, sometime you fire as if fully manned and sometime you won't or how is it?
What can you expect exactly if you sail with minimum required? What about if you have half between the minimum required and the result the calculator gives?
