Basic Knowledge

#1 Pirates

Orange name players are either privateer (who only robs other nation's ships) or exile to stronger nation

Red name players are pirates (who robs anyone regardless of nationality)

Some pirates says "Im not a pirate" in ther status, but you better not trust anyone with red and orange name

#2 Safe Area

There are safe places near "Landing point" or any ports. Your character name will be displayed green when in these areas.

#3 15 seconds safety

When you get in to another sea or after battle with any npcs or players, your character name blink for          15 seconds, this is the moment when you should log out if pirates are near you.

#4 Green flag

Green flag next to your character name means you cannot get assailed when the green flag is on.

Green flag is displayed One Minute when you ran away from pirates

Ten minutes when you get robbed pirates and used rescue skill or life savers

If pirates are still near you for second attack, you better to choose log out

Preparing for pirates, and right ways to deal pirate when asssailed

1. Scroll your mouse around 360 digree to see if any pirates are coming

2. Use Lookout Skill to see name of players at further distance

3. Go to System - Setting - Change graphic display setting and change your

Sea view option to Wide

Sea visibility option to Far

4. Use Search option

Community - Search (Z key in keyboard) to see if any pirates are in your area.

5. Open Bazzar or Recruiting while sailing.

Some pirates get tricked by Bazzar and Recruiting, and miss the battle button

6. System - Setting - In game display setting and change

Battle Spectators option to Show from Hide.

You can see if any pirates are waiting for your battle ends with npcs while in battle

If you see any kind of galleys or ships sailing around your battle field, stop firing cannons with Npc until the pirate go away.

(Some(Most actually) pirates are really stupid that they use skull crest on turkish galley just for good looking. you can use this crest to recognize the guy sailing next to you is either pirate or other player.

7. Bring Retreat bells  with you and maximize your sailors' abilites.

You will more likely to retreat from melee battle

8. Bring Misers' chain and train storage skills

Some pirates (except for real strong players) trained their maritime with gunnery and have low rank melee skills. so as their plunder skill.

You can prevent getting looted completely by having more than twice rank of your storage then pirates.

Misers' chain increase your storage rank for 5 in 30 seconds.

9. Sail with low ship durability

Most pirates with brain use bow cannon to deal critical shot to make your ship stop. If you sail with low durability, you can get wrecked by even bow cannons. you better get wrecked rather than meleed and get robbed.

10. When in battle, dont sail straight away from pirates like shown below

[ pirate ship)>                              [your ship)>

The reason is,  you can possibly get critical shot by their bow cannons. Your ship always stop when you get crits from pirate

You should sail slantly from pirates to retreat safely.

11. Log out

The easiest, and safest method to run away from pirates. go to System - Shortcut and

Set your F1 shortcut as change character. You would be able to log out much quickly

12. Stern Cannon

Little harder than other, but possible to try.

When pirate is chasing you in battle right after you, deal crits to pirate with your stern cannon

13. Blocklist option

Pirates use search option too.

You can avoid being detected by pirates by adding pirates name on your block list.

Players with red or orange name cannot avoid being detected by adding block list

Running away from pirates

You dont need to feel humiliation just because you ran away from pirates

#1. Attack Npcs

     1) Attack Npcs and retreat toward safe area near any landing points or ports

     2) Attack Npcs and get wrecked by cannons. More likely to reduce loss than robbed by pirates

#2. Train your Melee and bringLoudbomb or White smoke bomb

Whitebomb decrease pirates' att by 20%

Loudbomb decrease pirates' att and def by 10% each and disorder.

#3. Use galleys and train rowing skill

This is not required for merchant since galleys require many sailors but for adventurer.

You can stand to pirates during melee battle due to many sailors and can use row skill to run away from them.

If your melee skills are good enough and lucky, you might be able to fight pirate while he or she is in disorder.

#4. Mine laying

Its always good to have mine rank at least 10. Mine laying is one of the fastest skills to train and deal good damage. (about 200 when R10). You might be able to sink pirates down and give them little skull next to thier character name (pirates cannot attack other people when they have skulls on thier head). Besides, its always good to have some bounty.

Rob pirates

This kinda sounds like nonsense but if you have enough Pillage orders, you can use them to rob pirates'  good equipments, cannons and etc during melee battle.

Hope this could save at least one sailor from pirates.

I think it would be helpful if you could say where you buy/find/make those whitebombs or those loudbombs as I couldn't find any information on this website.

Good information overall, thanks.

Unfortunately, there is no place selling loud bomb and whitebombs.
You can earn those from maps in Venice, Naples archieve with Search 3, Unlock 3. each 5 but still an easy way to attain.

if you are a trader, usually pirates have overwhelming power, so dont waste your turn by using loud bomb or white smoke bomb. the best choice is RETREAT only.

openning bazaar to confuse the pirate is just stupid!
he can easy buy all ur stuff, kill u and get the money back :S
stern cannons might help cuz if u crit them (they wont die) but they will lose speed...
best option with u dont wanna deal with pirates is to avoid them :)

Another tip: Place items you can't afford to have plundered in your captain's bag/binder by going to Character > Inventory > Store. Don't forget about your vault and dwelling storage spaces also. When you are going to sail into hostile waters be sure and carry less than 50k on you while at sea, you can always take money out and put it back at any town.

if you can crit them , that mean they can crit you by bow cannon too , and , i bet if the pirate has heavy bombing , you lose
if you use item when your ship has only under 28 sailors (vs a 168 sailors MAV ) he can 1 hit kill you

The best way to counter pirate, is learn MT skills. People alway complains pirate are bad, but pirating is part of the gameplay and it not excuses that they attacking u is bullying.

I been training trading in the begining, but now been also doing MT training, cos i need some basic defend. U want pirate not to attack u, u need to prove u got some knowledge of self-defend, u need not to win, but at least they will know u a hard nut to crack. And chances that they encounter u again, will leave u alone.

U don't need R15, if u can get basic of R5-R10. It will be good enough to warn those low level pirate to leave u alone, unless u meet strong pirate like nell, killigrew, frank etc.

Another most basic thing, use shortcut key for logout. And use Z to scout pirate, u see strong pirate, logout for safety if u scare. Some of the above method is already out-dated since it is for early stage purpose. With improvement unlock, some pirate have their boat fully boat for higher speed, higher pick up etc and 80% chances for merchant boat will be engaged. Which why learning MT skill is a must to learn instant. A fully improved merchant boat will most likely unable to escape from a fully improved galley boat (enhance with rowing), unless there a distant.

If u really want a safe trip, u can make the highest tribute (FOR PLAYER), which need 80pepper, 80lumber and 80sapphire. Make at asterdam, storage R8. Which is also very very expensive to make, just material alone will cost 300-500k to work. Work in normal water, lawless will not work.

LOL, sound like a sour grape. If u think, u can kill me off easily. Find me at lop buri, i still training mt there. I don't mind sinking or melee to death by u, if u dare to 1v1. I may not win, but if u try melee me, i can guarantee, it will be hard fight.

Note, i never say pirate are stupid, but there is pirate that are stupid, which u probably didn't encounter before. If u think u a intelligent pirate, i really doubt so. Pirate like nukeshaw is consider 1st class, which i doubt u can match his standard and i believe many player who know him will agree, he is one of the best pirate u ever encounter.

Red name doesn't mean pirate, real pirate = plunder people off, killing crew, not sinking with cannon. Sinking people is not the real business of pirate, that is more like a PK, for fun, pleasure or showing off.

1st - Best check search - if see pirates dont leave city.
2nd - If see pirate when u exit city dont leave safe area - you are not faster than him.
3rd - trader vs pirate = u lose so avoid fight
4th - best thing use spoils =100% work u lose half of money on you and they cant atack you next 10+mins!!!
fun parts
5th - if have more crew than 30 use guard it wins vs assault and if your guard r10 pirate will have bigger chance to lose
6th - use navy dispatch xD if u have good maritime lvl
7th - avoid - if see pirate coming logout and pray he wont engage you before u log off :)
anyway this is game, enjoy and have fun xD

It's still amusing how some clowns say piracy and pirates are stupid. Well, sometimes when your happly trading and you get attacked while your port hopping and you see a big vaisseau chasing you down, and you die.. well.. yeah, im not saying that type of piracy is stupid, but it doesnt envolve much more thinking than, wait for them to leave, attack, plunder.. Yeah, thats pretty much point and kill.. But if your deep sea pirating then you need to keep up with the trade routes, know where a job title of a player would likely take them and then once you catch a fleet, take them all down.. Not just 1 or 3.. Piracy isnt stupid, the reasons some do it is.

Decide your priorities. Are yu worried about getting robbed? Do you get rage maddness when you lose?I never considered it humiliating to lose, I figured if I kept atrying, I would learn useful things to make me better. If I go to a popular pirate port to load goods, Before I start I search for pirates and talkto maritimers in arrea and ask abouwho's around. If I find out there is a pirate around. Before getting to trade goods, I get into maritime gear and drop good stuff like nice sails in vault. there are lots of things that have a low possibility of being stolpossibly are not expensive to replace anyway. I'm not much of a meleer so I load up on bells get strong cabnnons or if there are very strong or fleeted pirates around I will pm strong maritimers and asto fleet up. It can be almost impossible to melee kill someone who has person with high surgery constantly replaing their crew.ome pirates are just very good fighters so no need to be embarassefor losing. Aknowledge their abilities and next yome you can take more soecific preparationsIf you fight often you just learn what orks and mwork ut issues as time goes on. If yfight more than they do, You can win. I have always found battle fun and as a work in progress. e a good sport andeven ask uestions if you have them.Ive said things like, " My cannons just cant damagre you." Are you using double shot defense or just evasion? How high is your evasion? what kind of hull is that? Alot of times maritimers will offer much helpful info. Or even go so far to offer suggestion you could try. If they were hard to kill, they are great sources of practical information. I've had pirates target me and make me miserable then offer me advice made me a better fighter then ask for team up in esf or to attack other pirates. As long as you do your best to try new strategies and arent dying a miserable clipper death. It can be fun. If you kill them before you trade, ythey wont be able to attack you for awhile. hurry, load and leave.
